| Does God want to help me? |

We all feel as though we need to rely on ourselves to get anything done. Sometimes though, our feelings are not right. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
Sometimes we think we need to rely on ourselves first because God isn't going to help us. Sometimes we think He isn't going to help us because we don't deserve His help. This is a big mistake in thinking. We never deserve His help. He will help you with whatever you face right now because He likes you. He is generous and good and wants to help you. The picture in our minds might be totally different from who God really is. For example, if we think our father is angry with us, we might want to avoid him. But if we knew that he was proud of us and liked us just the way we are, we would feel confident, comforted and loved. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." This means that God loves you so much that He sacrificed His only and only one Son. He didn't do this because He was angry with you, but because He loves you right now. He is close, not far; and looks at you with affection, not scorn or disapproval. He does not want you to feel bad about who you are or to live in the past regretting what you have done. He is positive about your life and certain you will succeed. His help opens a window of opportunity because He is your biggest supporter and everything around Him brings forth success.
Some people think they must become good and disciplined first, then they can know God. Maybe it’s like the person who won’t go back to their hometown until they have made it big. But knowing God is the exact opposite. He asks us to come to Him first, then we can succeed, otherwise we are empty and running on air. By knowing Him first, we understand ourselves and things start to work out. We can’t do anything really right without Him, that’s why He takes us as we are, exactly as we are right now. He is a doctor who helps someone get better, not a judge who makes lists of defects. He knows you need to be strong to succeed. That is why He will fill your heart with security, hope and love first. Then you are confident because you have allowed yourself to receive love, and are able to change. You are strong enough to do good things.
Stop and think about this for a second. If God were in front of you, handing you a fruit, what kind of fruit would it be?
It might be that the fruit you picture God is giving you is like what you think He's giving you in your life. If it isn't something really, really good--sweet, perfect and wonderful, that shows that maybe there isn't an understanding yet of who God is and how generous He is to you.
Generosity is God's nature. He makes lives better. Everything He does is great. You are what He is doing right now. The future He has for you—no matter what point you are at in life, no matter what you have done before or what has been done to you—is great. God is simply bigger than all human problems. Much, much bigger, so with Him, change and overcoming difficulties are easy, not hard. We know that when we receive His spirit of victory and encouragement, His hope is a light in us that we must have.
How long has it been since you completely hoped in your life. Look at some pictures of how He sees you to remember that hope again. Consider that the easiest to understand proof of His love and existence may be the care He has put into you. You did not just happen like a seed that fell out of a bag and began growing in some dirt opened up by a crack in the road. Neither you nor the fact that you are reading this is random. Both are shaped by His purpose. It is not coincidence. You are more like a novel that He has poured His heart into expressing something amazing that deserves to be read. But with respect to you, as Pastor Brian Houston would say, it is your life and it is meant to be lived.
God likes you and wants your life to improve. That’s why He offers His help. If you would like to say "yes" to beginning a relationship with Him right now, or renewing your relationship with Him, please read and follow the links to something good below.... |
